How
Can You Help?
Southwest
Service Dogs does not charge clients for a Service Dog. The only charge
is a $300.00 fee to cover costs for the mandatory two-week training that
the client must complete in order to receive the dog and supplies. The
national average for training a service dog is approximately $30,000.
Because
SWSD is operated entirely by volunteers our costs are much lower, but
still significant. The dogs require ongoing health-care (and the first
year with all those puppy vaccinations and spay/neutering is generally
the most expensive). We feed a high-quality dog food and provide an environment
in which to play and learn that challenges the dogs physically and mentally.
Southwest
Service Dogs is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. As such we survive on
grants, donations and the money that comes in from the children's programs
that are offered. Our biggest need is always money. If you wish to make
a tax-deductible donation to SWSD, please mail your donation to: P.O.
Box 158, Clarksville, AR 72830.
Thank you for thinking of us.
We
also are in need of:
Wheelchairs, both
manual and electric, in working order (or inexpensively fixed) for training
purposes
Crates/Kennels
and exercise pens of all sizes
Doghouses
(Although the dogs always are in a house at night, during the day they
require adequate shelter from sun, rain or cold...and besides doghouses
provide opportunities for puppies to play hide and seek.)
