About Southwest Service Dogs

The goal of Southwest Service Dogs is to provide highly-trained dogs that assist people with disabilities other than blindness. The dogs can be the hands and feet for people who have lost the use of theirs by retrieving the telephone, items from the refrigerator and items of clothing along with many other tasks.
The founder and Senior Instructor at SWSD, Kate Morgan, received training as a Service Dog instructor at the Assistance Dog Institute in Santa Rosa, CA by Dr. Bonnie Bergin and staff. Dr. Bergin originated the service dog concept and founded Canine Companions for Independence as well as the Assistance Dog Institute. Prior to her training at the Assistance Dog Institute Kate had extensive experience training dogs over many years and has worked as a volunteer at several animal shelters. Kate has also run school programs at three different schools teaching children to train dogs as well as a summer camp.
