Southwest Service Dogs

Southwest Service Dogs (SWSD) was established to raise and train service dogs and to provide them to people with disabilities. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We will make placements in areas where we can assure follow-up visits and annual retesting for public access. An integral part of our work is to teach children to help in the training of these dogs, a process which is beneficial to both.

The goal of Southwest Service Dogs is to provide highly-trained dogs that assist people with disabilities other than blindness. The dogs can be the hands and feet for people who have lost the use of theirs by retrieving the telephone, items from the refrigerator and items of clothing along with many other tasks.

Therapy dogs visit with people in nursing homes, hospitals, or in a home environment when people are unable to have a dog of their own. They provide a soft, warm companion who will give them unconditional love and entertainment.

Southwest Service Dogs also offers programs that allow children (Student Trainers) ages 9-17 to assist with training the dogs. Student Trainers learn patience and consistency as well as how to be a trusted leader for their service dog in training.

Give us a call if you would like more information on any of our services, or would like to apply for one of our trained service dogs.  The application process starts with a simple phone call to Southwest Service Dogs at 479.646.0886.
